Casino
Working at the casino as a croupier and poker dealer gave me my inspiration for the collection. On my first days I envisioned seeing gorgeous gowns, glitter and glamour. But I was disappointed. All I saw was joggers, hoodies and t-shirts. If I cannot defeat the “enemy,” I must join forces with it, I thought. Which is how the concept of this collection was born.
Combining classic fabrics such as pinstriped wool with ripped jersey. Classic silhouettes are exaggerated and extremely oversized, embodying the relaxed attitude of a typical poker player. Elegant fashion can and should be comfortable and practical.
The ego is an important aspect of the casino. Whether it is because of the rush of money and winnings, by assuming the role of a poker player, or through being under the influence. To visually represent this almost narcissistic state of mind, I turned a photograph of my own face into a pattern and printed it onto lining fabric using screen printing.
What makes sweatpants such a persistent subject of debate? Why were they excluded from formal places like casinos for so long? The collection encourages reflection on values, possibly unfounded traditions, and prejudices that arise solely through clothing. At the same time, the topic is so absurd and irrelevant that I was able to lose myself in the process of designing, and distance myself from the seriousness of life.
Today, I even wear sweatpants myself.
