Lucia Feigl I „WIR&ICH“
In my graduation collection “WIR&ICH”, I explore my own origins. The collection is based on the idea that we carry the key to our past within ourselves. We are the gateway that connects us to all of our ancestors. In our appearance, our way of being, and our character, we carry our ancestors within us—often without being aware of it. They constantly surround and envelop us, actively shaping who we are.
These strong connections are reflected through the materials. On the one hand, an old farmer linen is used, woven by my own great-grandmother, who came from a farm near Lake Chiemsee in Bavaria. On the other hand, transparent fabrics are incorporated to express the idea of being enveloped.
“WIR&ICH” employs many traditional craftsmanship techniques, such as “stifteln”, a smocking technique which today is mainly found in traditional costume making, as well as monogram embroidery—a technique my ancestors used to mark their self-made linen cloths.
